According to the California Healthy Kids Survey, 25% of Beach Cities 11th graders reported using electronic cigarettes or other vaping devices in the past 30 days.
At the Redondo Beach City Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 4, students from Beach Cities Health District’s (BCHD) Youth Advisory Council gave their testimony on the pervasiveness of vaping in their community. Jadelynn Collins (RUHS ’22), Jenna Tripoli (RUHS ’20) and Rani Crosby (RUHS ’23) shared their experience being exposed to vaping and e-cigarettes in their daily life, and urged the Council to take a stand against flavored tobacco products and their illegal sale to people under the age of 21.
City Council approved the first reading of a tobacco retail permit that limits youth access to tobacco products and an ordinance that prohibits smoking in public places in Redondo Beach.
