No person should have to go without adequate medical, dental or counseling services. To prevent this, Beach Cities Health District helps residents navigate the vast array of services available within the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area. Contact the Assistance, Information and Referral line for additional information at 310-374-3426 and press option 1.

If you need assistance during open enrollment, please refer to the resources below:

  • COVERED CALIFORNIA: If you are uninsured or need to renew your Covered California plan during open enrollment, please visit www.CoveredCA.com or call (800) 300-1506. You can also create an account on the Covered California portal and select a new enrollment counselor or agent to assist with your insurance needs.
  • MEDICARE: The Center for Health Care Rights helps older adults, people with disabilities and their family members and caregivers in Los Angeles County navigate Medicare and get the health care they need. State-registered Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) counselors are trained to provide free Medicare counseling and advocacy for people with Medicare. Call the free telephone helpline at 800-434-0222 or visit  https://healthcarerights.org/.
  • MEDI-CAL: If you are on Medi-Cal or have any questions about Medi-Cal, please visit https://dpss.lacounty.gov/en/health.html. You can create an account on the BenefitsCal portal, www.BenefitsCal.com or call the local Department of Public and Social Services office at (866) 613-3777.

Questions about Medicare? 

Receive free, unbiased Medicare help from the Center for Health Care Rights by scheduling an in-person appointment with a State-registered Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) counselor.

The counselor can assist with questions and problems related to:

  • Medicare coverage rules
  • Medicare Part A and B eligibility, benefits and claims
  • Medicare coordination with private insurance 
  • Medicare Part D plan choices 
  • Insurance options for supplementing Medicare — Medigap insurance, Medicare Advantage, Medi-Cal
  • Programs that help low-income beneficiaries with Medical expenses — Medi-Cal, Medicare Savings ZPrograms, Extra Help to assist those who qualify pay for prescription drugs
