MB Middle School Celebrate Bike to School Day
Waves of bicycle riders trekked to Manhattan Beach Middle School on May 9 in celebration of Bike to School Day. It is the second year that Principal Kim Linz organized this event with support from Beach Cities Cycling Club, South Bay Cycle Coalition, Manhattan Beach Police Department, Manhattan Beach Fire Department and Beach Cities Health District.
Upon arrival, more than 100 participating students had the chance to enter a raffle drawing for a new set of wheels. All students received bright reflective stickers to put on their helmets as well as bike safety light flashers. Everyone got into the street safety photo booth fun.
Highlights from Bike to School Day:
- The student bike rack was overflown with more than 100 bikers.
- Dr. Michael Mathews, superintendent of Manhattan Beach Unified School District and Ali Steward, director of Youth Services at Beach Cities Health District, helped welcome the early arrivals.
- The Leadership Manhattan Class 2018 donated a full-service bike repair station to the school as part of their project to give back to the community.
