REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (June 10, 2021) – As the need for large-scale COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites decreases, Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) will close its COVID-19 testing site and vaccination clinics. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH), vaccine demand has shifted, and the County has significantly increased the number of sites served by mobile teams. In fact, 75% of Hermosa Beach residents, 78% of Manhattan Beach residents and 75% of Redondo Beach residents age 16+ are vaccinated with at least one dose. BCHD will be pivoting back to many of its pre-COVID-19 operations, including recently reopening its Center for Health & Fitness, and planning for a return to in-person community events and programs.
BCHD’s AdventurePlex facility held its final vaccine clinic on May 22 and will be reopened for summer camp beginning June 21. BCHD’s mobile and pop-up vaccine clinics for students and school families will continue through June 14.
“From the outset of this pandemic, one of our primary goals was to ensure that COVID-19 testing and vaccines were easily accessible to people who live and work in the Beach Cities,” said Beach Cities Health District CEO Tom Bakaly. “We find ourselves in a very different place than we did a year ago. Much has been accomplished in the last 15 months to help get us through this pandemic thanks to our staff, our volunteers, our civic partners and Beach Cities residents, all of whom have remained diligent in the battle with COVID-19.”
BCHD’s team, comprised of staff and numerous volunteers, have administered 15,590 doses of vaccine, helping educators, school staff, students and families in the South Bay Consortium for School Vaccines – comprised of 11 public school districts in the South Bay – get vaccinated.
BCHD’s COVID-19 testing site in Redondo Beach held in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services additionally provided tests for more than 150,000 county residents since April 2020. BCHD also extended COVID-19 testing to local student athletes, teachers and prom attendees.
BCHD’s Care Managers have returned to serving clients in-person for those who prefer it. They’ve also helped 85% of BCHD’s Care Management clients get fully vaccinated through helping to schedule appointments, and coordinating transportation as needed.
LACDPH also announced it will transition its four large capacity vaccination sites to smaller community sites, saying they remain committed to getting vaccine into neighborhoods where they can continue to reach people who may have limited ability or time to get to large vaccination sites.
After Sunday, June 13, the County will transition the other three large capacity vaccination sites located at The Forum, Pomona Fairplex, and L.A. County Office of Education to nearby community sites. Beginning on Tuesday, June 15, residents can go to the following community vaccination sites:
