Beach Cities Volunteer Day
Our network of volunteers forms the backbone of Beach Cities Health District (BCHD). Diverse, motivated and talented, BCHD volunteers work in a variety of community-focused programs and play an integral role in improving the health and well-being of Beach Cities residents.

Beach Cities Volunteer Day is an annual Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) community service event where South Bay residents, businesses and organizations come together to support our LiveWell Kids program. Each summer, we partner with many volunteers to prepare 13 elementary school gardens across Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach for a new year of hands‑on garden and nutrition lessons. The LiveWell Kids gardens serve as living classrooms that spark curiosity, build healthy habits, and connect students to the natural world. Beach Cities Volunteer Day ensures these gardens thrive and remain ready for hands‑on learning year after year.
We’re excited to bring this event back in 2026!
Beach Cities Volunteer Day 2026
A huge THANK YOU goes out to the 160 community members who joined us for Beach Cities Volunteer Day on August 12, a day of service and community impact! These volunteers helped prepare our LiveWell Kids gardens at 13 elementary schools in the Beach Cities, and we were honored to have the Superintendents of each school district join us – Dr. Kim Linz from MBUSD, Dr. Nicole Wesley of RBUSD, and Dr. Susan Wildes of HBCSD. Hermosa Beach City Council member Dean Francois and members of Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell’s office were also on hand, helping to get the gardens ready for the upcoming school year.
Groups and organizations that supported the 2026 Volunteer Day effort included Always Best Care, Bohdi Casa, the City of Hermosa Beach, Hermosa Beach Lawn Bowling Club, National Charity League South Bay, South Bay Parkland Conservancy, and the allcove Beach Cities Youth Advisory Group. We appreciate the time and effort contributed by all participants, which will directly benefit students through hands-on nutrition and garden-based learning.
We are so grateful for the time, energy, and community spirit that made this day such a success. Stay tuned for details on Beach Cities Volunteer Day 2027. We hope you will join us again.
