Holiday Gift Bags

Each holiday season since 1998, friendly volunteers have delivered gift bags filled with practical and fun items to more than 200 Beach Cities older adults and adults with disabilities in the Beach Cities Health District Care Management program.

The Holiday Gift Bag Project is an annual initiative designed to bring connection, comfort, and essential household items to older adults and adults with disabilities in the Beach Cities community during the holiday season. Each year, thoughtfully assembled gift bags include items that support daily needs and help spread a little extra holiday cheer.

In 2025, the Holiday Gift Bag Project served over 220 older adults and adults with disabilities. Thanks to the generosity of our community, volunteers helped assemble and deliver gift bags filled with essential items, ensuring clients felt supported and remembered during the holidays.

This year’s Holiday Gift Bag Project has now concluded. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and care to make this initiative such a meaningful success.

Thank you again to our amazing community for your continued support. Please stay tuned for information about the Holiday Gift Bag Project in 2026.

What People are Saying About Holiday Gift Bags

“I volunteered for the Gift Bag Program with my kids to show them a fun way to give back and help people in our community. The opportunity to hand out the gift bags is very special and important. It keeps us connected to our neighbors and provides a meaningful moment to check in with one another.” – Eridania M., Volunteer

“This is one senior here who really appreciates all that you do for seniors. Your organization goes the extra mile” – Nathan C., Client

“We want to help people in our community who for whatever reason may be isolated because of physical or financial problems.  It’s heartwarming to see the recipient’s smile and they really seem to appreciate the gift bag contents. Personal contact is important to humans, especially around the holiday time.  There are many people in our community who have limited physical capabilities and are housebound.  This program is one of a few where a gift is delivered to the front door by a friendly and caring volunteer.” – Keith M., Volunteer

Ways to Give

1. Deliver a Bag

Individuals, families and groups are invited to volunteer to deliver holiday gift bags to an older adult in the Beach Cities this December. The visits help provide clients with joy, companionship and comfort during the holiday season.

2.  Donate

Please consider making a donation so we may provide our recipients with grocery gift cards as well as practical and fun items. Your gift of any amount helps fill each Holiday Gift Bag with care and cheer. Give $100 or more by December 1 and your generosity will be recognized on BCHD’s website, in a local newspaper, and in a letter to all gift bag recipients.

Businesses interested in making an in-kind donation (or at-cost pricing) of 260 items which may be appreciated by our clients, please contact Alejandra Sierra with BCHD Volunteer Services at (310) 374-3426, ext. 8160 to discuss further.

3. Decorate a Holiday Card

Help bring joy to one of our senior clients by decorating a holiday card that will be included in our holiday gift bags
Please see below:

  1. Select one or multiple of the cards here. Print on 8.5×11 inch paper and fold in half.
  2. Decorate the outside of the card. Use colored pencils, markers, glitter, etc. (get creative)!
  3. Write a nice, warm message on the inside of the card. Please refrain from writing about politics and religion. Below are examples that can be used:
    • “May your Holidays be filled with sweet and valuable things.”
    • “Wishing you a happy and lovable Holiday season!”
    • “Have a cheerful Holiday!”
  4. Remember to sign the card! You can use just a first name, and if you have children assisting it may be nice to include their age as well (e.g., From Christine, age 5)
  5. Include an envelope (if available). You may enclose each card in a greeting card envelope which can also be decorated, however, please do not seal the envelope as all cards will be reviewed prior to being placed in the holiday bags.  BCHD will provide envelopes to cards that aren’t enclosed in an envelope.
  6. Return cards to Volunteer Services by December 1, 2026. This can be done via mail or at our drop off location:

Mail: Beach Cities Health District
Attn: Alejandra Sierra
1200 Del Amo St
Redondo Beach, CA 90277

If mailing, please send a few days prior to December 1 to ensure we receive the cards in time.

Drop Off:  1200 Del Amo St. Redondo Beach, CA, 90277
Please drop off at our front desk, Attn: Alejandra Sierra (Monday – Friday,  9 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

For questions, please contact Alejandra Sierra, Volunteer Engagement Supervisor, at (310) 374-3426, ext. 8160 or Alejandra.Sierra@bchd.org.
