Our network of volunteers forms the backbone of Beach Cities Health District (BCHD). Diverse, motivated and talented, BCHD volunteers work in a variety of community-focused programs and play an integral role in improving the health and well-being of Beach Cities residents.

Whether you’re a student, retiree, working professional, parent, or part of a community group or organization, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities to match your interests and availability.

Types of Volunteer Opportunities
At Beach Cities Health District (BCHD), volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re looking to give back, meet new people or gain meaningful experience, we offer a wide variety of opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and skill sets.
- Community Events: Help us promote community health and resources.
- Youth & School Programs: Support health education and wellness programs in local schools.
- Older Adult Services: Assist with programs that promote connection, independence and wellness.
- Professional & Administrative Support: Lend your skills to help with a variety of other outreach, office and program coordination.
Featured Volunteer Opportunities
- Administrative Office Front Desk Volunteer: Our Admin and Community Services departments are looking for volunteer help including telephone coverage; front desk screening of staff and visitors; periodic disinfection of shared spaces; mail and package distribution; badge making; supplies inventory; assembling marketing packets; assisting with Help Desk Ticket tasks and projects. Must be 18+ and commit to weekly 4-hour shift on a regular basis. Shift needed: Fridays, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
- allcove Campus Greeter: Volunteers (14+ yro) meet all guests who enter the 514 building while also providing general support and customer service duties for the full BCHD campus. Duties include greeting guests and tenants, providing information and referral to public, walking visitors to/from medical appointments or allcove upon request, maintaining a clean and orderly area and tracking volunteer hours worked. Must be friendly, helpful and able to push wheelchairs and walk around the campus. Weekly 2- or 3-hour shift required for one year; scheduling available Monday – Friday. *Expected commitment for High School students is a semester or over the summer (30 hours min).
- Brain Buddy: Support Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities: Volunteers (18+ yro) are matched with older adults and/or disabled clients with memory loss and conduct weekly in home visits to lead structured activities such as art, music, or games, providing socialization and engagement. Weekly 1-1.5 hour shift commitment.
- Center for Health & Fitness Front Desk Volunteer: Are you outgoing and friendly and want to make a difference in your community? Come volunteer at the front desk of our Center for Health and Fitness. Volunteers check in and greet members as they arrive at the gym as well as provide additional assistance to front desk staff. Must be 18+ and commit to 2 hours a week. Shift needed: Tuesday, 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
- Conversation Companion: Support Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities: Volunteers (18+ yro) are matched with older adult clients and/or adult clients with disabilities to visit and engage in socialization activities such as life review, watch movies at home or in the theater, play card or board games, take walks, go for lunch, etc. Weekly 1-1.5 hour shift commitment.
- Errand Volunteer: Support Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities: Errand Volunteers (18+ yro) are matched with one of our Community Services Care Management clients and do weekly shopping for basic needs like groceries and prescriptions. Weekly 1-1.5 hour shift commitment for at least 3 months required. Shift needed: Friday, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
- LiveWell Kids Garden Angel: Volunteers (18+) maintain school gardens in Redondo and Hermosa Beach by weeding, watering, planting, and doing other projects on a rotating basis to support programming that promotes healthy eating through hands-on nutrition lessons. This is a physically active role that involves bending, kneeling, light lifting, gardening activities and working outside. Minimum one year commitment and at least two shifts per month on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday between 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon.
