Social Security

Social Security is primarily the Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) federal program. It encompasses several social welfare and social insurance programs.

LA County Department of Public and Social Services DPSS

County services include health care coverage through the Medi-Cal Program; CalFresh Nutrition Assistance; CalWORKs Financial, Homeless, Employment and Supportive Services Assistance via Welfare-to-Work programs; In-Home Supportive Services which helps the disabled and elderly to remain safely in their own homes; and, Financial, Homeless, and Employment assistance to indigent adults through the General Relief program.

Keep Your Home California

Keep Your Home California is designed to address the current housing crisis by assisting homeowners to retain their homes if they either have suffered a financial hardship such as unemployment, have experienced a change in household circumstance such as death, illness or disability, or are subject to a recent or upcoming increase in their monthly mortgage payment or are at risk of default because of an economic hardship coupled with a severe decline in their home’s value.

Housing Rights Center

Publishes a Project Place, a monthly listing of rental properties throughout LA County. Also provides housing discrimination investigation, fair housing education and tenant landlord counseling

Affordable Living for the Aging (ALA)

ALA offers solutions for creating affordable housing and reducing isolation among seniors. Offering support with Placement Services, Shared Housing, Supportive Services & Affordable Housing Options. For Placement services, currently offer two programs: in-Home Care and our Out-Patient Placement Program (for Hospitals and Government entities).

LA County Housing Resource Center

Search for rental properties, including affordable, handicap accessible and Section 8 housing, throughout LA County. Also has information on shelter programs, tenants’ rights and tools for budgeting.

PATH and South Bay Cities Council of Governments Outreach Hotline

Connect individuals with services that include: Housing Assistance, Interim Housing, Veteran Services, Mental Heath Care, Medical Clinic, Employment Services, Benefits Enrollment.

Harbor Interfaith

Assistance with food stamps & medical, referrals for counseling, job placement, one-time rental assistance, groceries, hygiene items, clothing. SPA 8 contact for Coordinated Entry System (chronically homeless individuals) and Homeless Family Solutions System.

LAHSA Emergency Shelter Hotline

Referrals for emergency shelter, food, and clothing.
