For FY 2019-2020, the following grants have been awarded to the following organizations in the amount of $133,631
Manhattan Beach Community Counseling Center $8,200
- Individual and group mental health counseling for low-income Beach Cities residents
St. Paul United Methodist Church $8,453
- Homeless meal program and food program for homeless and low-income Beach Cities
Residents
The Salvation Army Meals on Wheels $55,524
- Home delivered meals for home-bound seniors and disabled adults in the Beach Cities
Manhattan Beach CERT $11,100
- Free CPR training for beach cities residents
South Bay Children’s Health Center $20,150
- Individual and group counseling for students during the summer
Cancer Support Community $26,204
- Support groups and counseling for individuals and their families who are confronting cancer
Redondo Beach Rotary Vision to Learn $4,000
- Eye exams and prescription eyeglasses for low income students in Redondo Beach Unified School District
Micro Enrichment Grants
In compliance with AB 2019, BCHD adjusted our Micro Enrichment grant process to include two competitive funding cycles per fiscal year. The first Micro Enrichment grant application period occurred between October 15, 2018 and November 9, 2018 with a total of $22,500 in available funding. Nine grant awards totaling $21,200 were made in that first window.
The second micro enrichment grant funding cycle opened March 18, 2019 and closed April 15, 2019 with an additional $22,500 in available funding. Eleven Micro Enrichment Grant applications were received. The following grants totaling $18,150 were approved:
Leadership Manhattan Beach $4,800
- AED machines for Manhattan Beach Police department vehicles
Mira Costa Grad Night $1,000
- Scholarships for Grad Night
Re-Active $4,500
- Outdoor workshops for individuals with neurological injuries
Rebecka Chang Yes/And $2,880
- Improv skills workshops for individuals with dementia and their care partners
The Financial Aid Shop $4,970
- Financial Aid workshops for students and families
These awards complete the micro enrichment grant process for fiscal year ’18-’19 with a total of $39,350 in awards. The next micro enrichment grant opportunity will be announced in October 2019.
