Small changes can make a huge difference when it comes to consumer food choices, healthy habits and overall well-being. Blue Zones Project Approved ™ Grocery Stores pledge to make the healthy choice, the easy choice through actions that are backed by evidence-based research in Blue Zones Project® communities across the nation.
Grocery Outlet at 2115 Artesia Blvd in Redondo Beach is the newest Blue Zones Project Approved Grocery Store in the Beach Cities, and the first grocery store designation since 2018.
As soon as you enter Grocery Outlet, you can find wholesome snacks in Grocery Outlet’s Blue Zones® Checkout Lane as well as a selection of delicious grab-and-go lunches and fruit medleys. By eliminating sugar-sweetened beverages from the Blue Zones Project Checkout Lane and labeling water as a healthy alternative, Grocery Outlet encourages consumers to cut down on added sugar. Placing children's cereals with the lowest nutritional value on shelves that are at least 66.3 inches high reduces the likelihood of children asking their parent to purchase sugary cereals for them.
Grocery Outlet also encourages shoppers to consume more produce by leading them to the back of the store with arrow adhesives that guide customers to fresh produce consumed in Blue Zones regions around the world.
One of the most important ways to increase awareness about health and well-being is through education and promotion. Grocery Outlet promotes a Blue Zones Food Special each week and uses shelf talkers to call out Blue Zones foods and the number of servings found in fruits and vegetables.
Grocery Outlet makes nutrition education fun and interactive for the whole family. Fun facts about Blue Zones Foods and recipes are posted throughout the store and the Blue Zones Project scavenger hunt directs children to healthy foods.
When Blue Zones Project Partners commit to making changes in our built environment, consumers become empowered to make healthier choices which inspires a culture of wellness within our community.
