Board Member Election Process

The Board of Directors of the Beach Cities Health District consists of five (5) Directors, each of whom must be a registered voter residing in the District (see map of jurisdiction). Each Director, elected at large by District voters, serves a term of four (4) years. Any mid-term vacancies on the Board are filled by election or appointment, in accordance with BCHD Policy 2060, Filling a Vacancy on the Board and Section 1780 of the Government Code of the State of California.

Election for District board members is conducted by the County of Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk ( Elections for District Board members are commonly held in conjunction with the November general election. The four-year terms of office are staggered so that either two (2) or (3) board members are elected every two years. Information on filing for office can be found at

Pursuant to Government Code Section 1780, notice is hereby given that effective April 14th, 2017, there exists a vacancy on the Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) Board of Directors, a local governmental entity.  Pursuant to California law, the remaining BCHD Board members may fill the vacancy by appointment or by holding a special election.

A vacancy on the Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) Board exists due to the resignation of Lenore Bloss, Board member.

At its May 24, 2017 regular meeting, the BCHD Board of Directors made the determination to fill the vacancy by appointment.  The BCHD Board of Directors is seeking qualified residents from the cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach to serve as a Board member and have a direct impact on the health and wellness programs and services BCHD provides to the beach cities community.  The individual selected will fill the vacancy until the November 8, 2018 election and will have the option to run again to serve for the remaining two-year term.

Board members are expected to attend Board meetings that are generally held the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and evening committee meetings (average one per quarter) and other meetings as scheduled.

An applicant must be a resident of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach and eligible to vote in the general election.  Please complete the BCHD Board Member Application and submit with a resumé or curriculum vitae by noon on Thursday, June 8, 2017.  The appointment will be made by the Board of Directors at a special meeting on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.  The term will begin once the appointed person is sworn in.  You are invited to attend the June 13, 2017 meeting at 5:00pm and will have an opportunity to address the Board for up to three (3) minutes.
