Healthier, Happier You
Join Beach Cities Health District for the #ScreenTimeChallenge!

Beach Cities, it’s time for digital detox. We’re spending too much time online and not enough time in real life.

American adults spend the equivalent of 49 days a year on their phone and tablets. Children aren’t faring much better – those ages 8-11 are spending nearly 4 hours per day on screen time (twice the recommended limit) and teenagers spend even more, with conservative estimates around 6 hours per day, outside of schoolwork.

Between September 9-27, let’s pledge to reduce our screen time. Join us for the #ScreenTimeChallenge! Upon submission, you will be entered into an opportunity drawing to win one of ten $25 gift cards to a Blue Zones Project Approved Restaurant®.

iPhone Users:
Step 1: Open your Settings App.
Step 2: Tap Screen Time (It has a purple hour-glass symbol).
Step 3: Tap the graph to see a detailed breakdown on what apps are being used and at what time. Toggle between seeing today’s usage and the last 7 days at the top. You can also set limits on this page.
Step 4: Press the lock button and home button simultaneously to take a screenshot.

Android Users:
Step 1: Open your Settings App.
Step 2: Tap Digital Wellbeing (or go to a downloadable app for tracking usage time)
Step 3: Tap Screen Time on the chart for more information on what apps you had on screen and for how long. You can also tap Unlocks for how often you unlocked your phone and opened certain apps, and notification for how many notifications you’ve gotten and from which apps.
Step 4: Take a screenshot by pressing your phone’s power button for a few seconds, then tap screenshot.

(“The Digital Wellbeing” feature may only be available to Android users using a Google Pixel device.)
