Project Alert

Beach Cities Health District began implementing Project ALERT in local middle schools more than a decade ago to help curb substance abuse among young people, specifically 13- to 15-year-olds.

Using evidence-based curriculum, Project ALERT delivers substance use prevention lessons to seventh and eighth graders in Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach public school. The program focuses on alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other commonly abused drugs. The goal is to motivate non-use through education and help young people learn to recognize and repel peer pressure to use drugs.
