From the Desk of BCHD
Beach Cities Health District is still in the running to become the next Vitality City! As you may know, BCHD is a finalist to receive assistance with making our community a healthier place to live. We have been hosting more members of the selection committee throughout the month of July and are anxiously awaiting their decision. For more information regarding this project, visit http://www.bchd.org/documents/BCHD-VitalityCity-Brief.pdf.
Please welcome our new MoveWell Volunteers!
Community Care Services is pleased to announce our new MoveWell In-Home Exercise Program volunteers. We welcomed five volunteers on July 10th. MoveWell is a physician-approved, safe and simple exercise program for our frail beach cities residents to build up their strength to prevent falls and promote a healthier lifestyle. These volunteers will visit their client in their home once a week to perform the exercises with them as well as make a follow-up phone call once a week to provide motivation.
Are you Up-To-Date with Your Immunizations
August is known as being the National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). Immunizations aren’t just for babies and young kids. We all need shots to help protect us from serious diseases and illness. The goal of NIAM is to increase awareness about immunizations across the life span, from infants to the elderly. August is the perfect time to remind family, friends, co-workers, and those in the community to catch up on their vaccinations. Parents are enrolling their children in school, students are entering college, and healthcare workers are preparing for the upcoming flu season.
